Two words worth learning before you get quoted
Insert replacement (also called a pocket or retrofit replacement) fits a new window inside your existing frame, which stays in place. Full-frame replacement removes the old frame entirely, back to the rough opening.
They are different jobs, they cost different amounts, and they are not always interchangeable for a given opening. If you learn nothing else before your first sales appointment, learn to ask which one is being quoted. Two quotes that differ on this are not competing quotes.

Do I have to replace every window at once?
That is a scope decision, not a technical one, and it is a legitimate thing to ask an installer to quote both ways. Phasing changes the per-window economics, which is covered in the cost section.
